winter leadership course

This is an introductory course designed for skiers looking to increase their knowledge and decision making skills in the winter environment. This course will provide the skills necessary to lead ski trips in the mountains.

Skills covered include:

  • Efficient use of avalanche transceivers including deep burials
  • Avalanche rescue, in depth practice scenario
  • Snow profiles
  • Snow stability tests
  • Trip planning and information gathering
  • Applying snow information to terrain
  • Route finding and terrain analysis
  • Map reading, compass, GPS
  • Route finding on glaciers
  • Rope systems for crevasse rescue
  • Improvised rescue toboggans
  • Ski Mountaineering Peaks
  • Hut to hut skiing
